builds new homes and new opportunities for...Seniors, Families and people with Special Needs! |

Northwest Housing Alternatives Mission Statement: NHA's mission is to house those most in need. We build and rehabilitate affordable housing for Oregonians earning low incomes including seniors, families and people with special needs. NHA also operates the Annie Ross House shelter for homeless families with children.
Home is a place of safety and retreat, a place where family and community can grow. For some Oregonians with low incomes, having a place to call home is out of reach. Low wages or fixed incomes combined with the high cost of housing forces these families to choose between rent, utilities, nutritious food, medications and other basic necessities. NHA is working to provide new opportunities through quality affordable housing.
Northwest Housing Alternatives has been developing a wide range of affordable housing options for over twenty-four years. We started in Clackamas County but now have apartments and group homes in 14 Oregon counties. We own and manage a diverse portfolio of affordable properties including:
• Low-cost apartments for seniors, families and individuals who earn low incomes
• Supported apartments for people with special needs who can live independently
• 53 group homes across the state for adults with disabilities
• A group home where people living with HIV and AIDS can reside with dignity
• A shared home for mothers in recover who are re-uniting with their children
• Annie Ross House, a shelter for homeless families with children
Today NHA serves more than 2,000 tenants with stable and affordable housing. From inner city Portland to John Day, our mission remains the same - to provide affordable homes to those who need it most.
We're not resting on our laurels! We are very actively building and rehabbing more housing to meet the growing need for affordable housing. Our current development projects include:
• Trenton Terrace, 66 senior apartments in North Portland
Opening December 2006 or January 2007
• Village at the Headwaters, 56 senior apartments in Southwest Portland
Opening November or December 2006
• Weidler Commons, 51 senior apartments in Northeast Portland
Rehab to be completed November or December 2006
• Hearthstone, new group home for people with special needs
• Meadowlark Apartments, supported apartments for people with special needs
• Avalon House, shared home for women in the alternative court system, along with their children
Northwest Housing Alternatives is one of the largest and oldest nonprofit community development organizations in Oregon. NHA generates revenue from development and consulting fees and through a strong business plan and effective property management. We also gather funding from diverse sources including charitable and corporate foundations, government agencies, local business supporters and generous individuals. Through wise use of resources, NHA is working to build new homes and new opportunities for our neighbors in need.
